Review Video Hosting

Hi everyone, we've got a project coming up where we're considering self-hosting our review videos. I've  been looking in to what is involved and found this document..

..and was just looking for a bit of further clarification. Namely

• Is locally hosting the review media only an option if you are also locally hosting Ftrack itself ? The document suggests this is the case, but just wanted to be sure.
• Is the apache / ngingx web-server approach the only way ? For instance is it possible to load the media from a plain network file path ? I can't find anything to suggest this is possible, so I'm guessing not.
